whirlwind

This week has been, well, a whirlwind. Two Fridays ago, after I got back from lunch, I was laid off from my job. It came as a surprise to everyone, actually, especially me, since I’d been expecting to be hired in (I worked there through a staffing agency). I was upset, obviously, but decided just to let it go. The recruiter that I dealt with at work the most (she wasn’t my recruiter, but I talked to her almost daily) called me on Monday to check and see how I was doing and let me know that I was their “number one priority,” which was nice. I had applied at several staffing agencies right after I graduated university at the recommendation of a friend, and all but this one took my info and then…nothing. One actually called me last month (eight months after I’d applied) to tell me that they had a minimum wage job if I was interested in it. Sigh. I’ve gotten some good news so far, though, so I hope that continues.

I’ve been knocking stuff off of our wedding to-do list, which has been awesome (also, sleeping in, which is also awesome). We finally checked out our ceremony venue in person, as well as the area we want to do our engagement pictures, and then went to a tasting at the reception venue and talked with our coordinator more (she’s awesome). We went back to the salon where I got my dress and picked out tuxes for the boys–they had exactly what I wanted, and, because I bought my dress there, we got a discount AND Josh’s tux is free.  We also took Josh’s dad and stepmom to the reception venue and they LOVED it. They were actually set up for a wedding this weekend, so we got to see it with tables and place settings!

Josh fixed my bike! I got it from a friend a couple of years ago but had never actually ridden it until the other day. I haven’t ridden a bike in probably…ten years? but we did FIVE MILES the other day. Love that this city has nice trails to walk/run/bike on. It was tiring, but it felt good–too bad it’s too hot this weekend to do it again. We had to pick up two new wheels anyway.

First fire of the year! We’re big on campfires, s’mores, and star gazing. Welcome, summer.
